I was born and raised a Yorkshire girl. As a child my mother called me a ‘good-eater’, because every meal ended with a spotlessly clean plate. Growing up I even had a reputation for being able to out-feast my uncles, who would sit back in admiration as I polished off my third helping of Sunday roast. Over the last 15 years or so nothing has changed β but now I’m here in Sydney, enjoying all of the amazing produce that Australia has to offer.
My Feast Wisely philosophy? It’s all about indulging in food as one of life’s (biggest) pleasures but doing so in a way that’s good for your body and your mind. For me this means a diet packed with fresh produce and variety that’s low on meat and sugar and free of processed foods.
Although an English-Aussie, after many trips to Italy, Iβm almost Italian at heart. I love everything about the relationship the Italians have with food – it’s fresh, seasonal, local, mindful, social, generous and hearty. And I’ll happily admit that ice cream, pizza and prosecco are among my vices – because for feasting wisely means moderation not deprivation.
When not planning, preparing, eating or writing about food Iβm relaxing with my husband and my two (Italian) dogs, Enzo and Vespa.
I hope you enjoy my posts and perhaps learn a little something along the way……..
Laura
love your thoughts on eating well. Agree totally that we should fill ourselves and make it worth it π Many thanks for your visit to food for fun. Appreciate very much.
Thanks also – we’re pretty aligned in that respect!
My sentiments exactly. Eat great food, local when possible. We try to I still that into our boys, they certainly already have healthy appetites!
That’s good to hear – if only all children ate so well we might not have an obesity problem the world over!
The name of your blog is great. Following to see what you do next.
Thanks – took me a while to land on the name but glad I did!

Hi Laura! I love your philosophy- mindfulness is something so many people lack when eating, especially in the US. I think its so important to savor and appreciate food, and life really. I’m happy I found you! I’d love for you to share a post at my Tuesday link up!

Thanks for the follow and lovely words on my Feast Wisely philosophy – I can only imagine how much room there is for your role in education, especially living in the US. Look forwards to your Tuesday posts.
Balance is definitely something that I also try to incorporate into the way I eat. Love your food philosophy and as another English Laura who is now Aussie, we have a little bit in common (though I’d say that I’m a little bit Middle Eastern rather than Italian, I’m a bit obsessed with all things Ottolenghi, pomegranate and za’atar!). Thanks for stopping over at my blog so that I could find yours. Love what you’re doing so far! xx
Thanks fellow English/Aussie Laura for the lovely feedback! And yes I have dabbled in Middle Eastern but that’s all – hopefully you’ll share some good recipes (I love lamb and eggplant)…..
Hi!
Just stummbled accross your blog- love your idea on food philisophy. It is all about enjoying but with a balance in everything! I love to cook aswell and have dinner parties when I spurge on butter and cream, yet during the week try to eat as healthy as possible! Have a look at some of my recipes π
xx Hanna
