Homemade baked beans – simple & delicious!

Posted on July 27, 2019 by Laura • 5 Comments

As I was moving to a vegetarian diet during 2016 one of the first veggie recipes I shared was ‘beans on toast’. A recipe that came thanks to Jamie Oliver’s Comfort Food book. ‘Beans trump pork’ At the time my most popular recipe was for slow roasted pork with crispy crackling – with over 10,000 … Continue reading →

Homemade ‘Fig Ripple’ Ice Cream

Posted on October 12, 2017 by Laura • 21 Comments

My soft spot for ice cream goes back for as long as I can remember. The chimes of the ice cream van driving into our street on hot summer days remains a fond childhood memory. I’d rush to join the queue and then deliberate over which ice cream to spend my pocket money on. Usually … Continue reading →

A raw food diet for dogs – my ‘BARF’ recipe

It’s not only the humans in my family that feast wisely. The dogs do too. My two fur babies, Enzo and Vespa, are 5 and 4 years old. They’re both Cavoodles (a cross between a Poodle and a King Charles Cavalier). I’m a firm believer that a good diet plays a huge role in ensuring … Continue reading →

And for a heavy hit of good bacteria (probiotics) homemade is the only way to go.Homemade versus … Continue reading →

Growing up I wasn’t at all an adventurous cook. Rather I took pride in mastering a few basic recipes and then cooking them over and over again. One of these recipes was a good old ‘spag bol’. When it came to my spaghetti bolognese I don’t remember following an actual recipe. In fact I’m sure I … Continue reading →

Easy home-made yoghurt

Posted on April 27, 2016 by Laura • 24 Comments

They say habits take around 21 days to form. This feels about right for my home-made ice cream habit. I posted the recipe here a few weeks ago and now I’m in a routine of making yoghurt based ice cream as a regular dessert. It’s so good to be able to enjoy ice cream without the … Continue reading →

Chocolate hazelnut spread – like Nutella but homemade

Posted on November 29, 2014 by Laura • 8 Comments

Whenever I see an iconic jar of Nutella it brings back fond childhood memories. For years Nutella was my naughty spread alternative to butter. I could literally eat it straight from the jar. In more recent years Nutella has fallen victim to my quest to wean myself off added sugar. Despite it being a ‘hazelnut … Continue reading →

Home-made tomato sauce (or sugar free healthy ketchup)

Too often we’re tempted to take cooking short cuts. Store bought chicken stock, pre made curry paste, tubs of hummus. Every short cut takes us another step away from a diet free of processed ingredients. Continue reading →
