7 ways to help the planet and your wallet

Australia’s recent Summer of drought, heat and bushfires has made global headlines. So imagine the relief this weekend with heavy rainfall finally dampening many long burning fires. It’s been such a non-stop downpour that forecasts are predicting the most rain in over 20 years and mass flooding. It truly feels like a case of ‘from … Continue reading →

Becoming a blogger is pretty easy. You decide on a topic, choose a blogging platform and before you know it you’re up and running posting content. But that feeling of excitement that comes with starting a shiny new blog can all too quickly fade. And the blog can fade with it. This means it’s crucial … Continue reading →

Whether you call it a blogging birthday or an anniversary I just hit a big milestone. Feast Wisely turned five years old. I started this creative foodie outlet in January 2014 and almost 250 posts later my own diet has transitioned massively. I’ve gone from a meat based to a pretty much vegetarian or plant based … Continue reading →

Practice makes perfect they say. If only this applied to blogging. Every post we publish would get more views and comments than those that came before it. Every time we put pen to paper the words would flow more easily. And with every draft would come less editing….If this holds true for you then give … Continue reading →

How to make dried fruit (no dehydrator needed)

Although I love to cook the electric gadgets in my kitchen are pretty thin on the ground. There’s the obvious kettle and toaster as well as my ‘can’t live without’ stick blender….but that’s about it. I don’t even own a microwave let alone a slow cooker. In our last apartment we installed a fancy Miele … Continue reading →

Being hangry is now official. Why? Because in early 2018 it was added to the Oxford English Dictionary along with over 1,000 other new entries. In my last post I talked about ‘me time’ as a new dictionary entry and when I spotted ‘hangry’ on the new words list I couldn’t resist sharing this news … Continue reading →

We just moved house. Well strictly speaking we moved units. I say that because house prices in Sydney have skyrocketed so much in recent years that you now need a cool $1 million (and more) to purchase an ‘average’ Sydney house. It’s a city where opting for a unit/apartment can be the only way to … Continue reading →

How to Preserve Lemons

Posted on November 8, 2017 by Laura • 28 Comments

Too often I’ve been tempted by a Middle Eastern recipe only to be disappointed after spotting preserved lemons on the list of ingredients. Not because I dislike preserved lemons but rather they’re not a pantry staple and, until recently, making them myself hadn’t crossed my mind. But my ‘preserved lemons recipe disappointment’ is now a thing of … Continue reading →

Homemade sauerkraut (& spice mixes)

I’ve talked before about the wonders of sauerkraut as a fermented food and detailed my husband’s method of making it. With just a few simple ingredients and tools it’s very easy to turn ordinary cabbage into extraordinary sauerkraut. And for a heavy hit of good bacteria (probiotics) homemade is the only way to go.Homemade versus … Continue reading →

Making perfect pizza dough at home

Over recent months my occasional pizza feast has become twice weekly. That’s because since switching to a pretty much vegetarian diet I’ve come to really appreciate that pizza is one of those treats that doesn’t need meat. Give me plenty of cheese and toppings like olives, artichokes, mushrooms and eggplant and I’ll choose pizza over a … Continue reading →
